Keeping up with all these new DJs and producers can become quite the chore as there seems to be a new dozen popping up everyday. For me, it’s also caused a lot of these popular songs to start sounding the same, but when I heard “Love$ick” I felt like there was something different about Mura Masa; then I heard “All Around the World” with Desiigner and I was all in on the new producer, his debut was something I needed to hear.

“Now name your direction
Are you gonna go for the blue or the red one?
Once you begin, ease your way in
That shit hits and you’re in for the long run”

Mura Masa has easily become one of my favorite electronic albums to come out in quite some time. I wouldn’t say that it does anything necessarily new or groundbreaking but by the way he brings together all his different influences from genres like pop, folk, alternative, and hip-hop to make his own unique sound makes this a highly enjoyable listen from start to finish. Like most producer albums, the songs are only as good as their features and while I’m not familiar with most of the ones he employs here, they all do a fantastic job of bringing life to his stellar production. With a debut like this, there’s no doubt in my mind that Mura Masa will be the next big thing in music.

Have you heard Mura Masa? What’d you think about it? Did you like all of the different musical influences? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to leave your own ratings and reactions for the album.
