Even though it came in July, winter finally came and it brought with it loads of spectacle and pay offs we’ve all been waiting for since 2011. Game of Thrones has quickly become mine, and many others’ favorite show out on TV. It’s mix of high fantasy, brutal realism, and unrelenting high-stakes power struggle full of ruthless scheming and genuine shock and awe, has made this one of the most fully realized TV world’s I’ve ever bared witness too. It’s been unexpected and enthralling throughout and now that they’ve announced that Season 7 and Season 8 would be the two last seasons of the show, there was a lot of anticipation for finally getting the long promised war to end all wars.

This season is more like a blockbuster film than it’s usual slow, thoughtful self, and that comes with some of the usual tropes and cliches it has scoffed at in the past. There’s a different feel to season for sure, but all of that was forgiven and forgotten when the fireworks started going.

This promise was clearly at the forefront of the showrunners’ thoughts because Season 7 is all about the spectacle. Characters finally meet face to face, the coming Night King and his army of the undead is no longer a secret, and as always more pieces are removed from the board. With only 7 episodes to work with this time around, things move at a much faster pace and some story elements take a hit as a result. There are some leaps in logic and time jumps that you’ll just have to accept, that haven’t really been a problem before on the show. This season is more like a blockbuster film than it’s usual slow, thoughtful self, and that comes with some of the usual tropes and cliches it has scoffed at in the past. There’s a different feel to season for sure, but all of that was forgiven and forgotten when the fireworks started going. They promised something spectacular and man did they deliver. It was everything I was hoping for and more and there were moments that were genuinely Lord of the Rings level; easily some of the most impressive scenes I’ve ever seen on the small screen. On a show already chock full of iconic moments, this season delivered even more of them by the plateful.

While this season was by no means perfect (it will undoubtedly irk some die hard fans), it was truly something to behold and delivered on it’s promises of epic. With only 2 seasons left and 6 years of build up, epic is exactly what I was looking for.

There’s no way that Tormund should be able to survive that whole ice wall being brought down by the Night King and his dragon but I’m sure they’ll find a way to keep him alive. Gotta keep that Brienne/Tormund shipping going.

We found out last season that Jon Snow was in fact a Targaryen but this season we find out that he’s indeed the legitimate successor to the throne and not a bastard at all. Ned Stark’s sister (always forget her name) wasn’t kidnapped and raped, instead they were in love and got married in secret. Will be really interesting to see how Daenerys reacts to this.

In case you’re all wondering, that does make Daenerys his Aunt. And he did in fact sleep with his Aunt. Just let that sink in for a moment.

Have you seen Season 7 of Game of Thrones? What’d you think about it? Were you happy that they went more spectacle than story this time around? Are you excited for it’s 8th and final season? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to leave your own ratings and reactions.
