There was a point in time where I legitimately thought Chris Brown would be our next Michael Jackson. He had everything – the dance moves, singing ability, incredible ear for production, he was just the most complete package I had ever seen since the King of Pop. I think I would’ve been right to if it wasn’t for all the other baggage he brought that not only had an immensely negative effect on his public image, but forever changed the way people viewed his music. It’s a shame really because even to this day he’s one of the most prolific pop stars in music today.

Now does that mean I want to hear a 45 track long project from him, no. Not even if it was from Michael himself. There’s a reason that album lengths have remained largely the same despite there being no physical limitations these days thanks to streaming and iPods making CDs all but extinct. No matter how great of an artist you are or how great your particular selection of songs are, listener fatigue will eventually set in. I made it about a quarter of the way through this monstrosity before my interest and attention began to wane and songs became nothing more than background noise. It’s impossible to distinguish the truly great from the good here so I won’t even try. But from everything I was able to distinguish, it was mostly good with some great sprinkled throughout. Typical Chris Brown R&B/pop fare but with a noticeably more vindictive tone in his songwriting. Whatever your opinion about Chris Brown and his music won’t be swayed in either direction by Heartbreak on a Full Moon; at this point in his career he’s a master at his craft and rarely makes a musical (keyword ‘musical’) misstep. This however, would have definitely been a case where less is more.
