Blue Chips was the first tape of Bronson’s that I ever heard and I’ve been a big fan ever since. It’s probably been his most successful series yet and the one that most of his fans have been patiently waiting for, especially since his major debut, Mr. Wonderful left a lot of his fan base divided. I personally loved it, but I’m probably more open to change and experimentation than most and I could see where some fans would be disappointed. However, with the announcement of the next installment of his beloved series, there was a palpable sense of excitement to what promised to be a return to form and in true Bronson fashion he skipped the three and went straight to Blue Chips 7000.
“Sweep you off your feet
Like Ryu in the corner”
There’s an implied next levelness that comes with naming his tape Blue Chips 7000 and for the most part I’d say he delivered. If you were one of those fans upset with all the singing and non hip-hop present on his debut then you’ll be glad to hear that he’s back with all the cinematic production and imagery rich lyricism you’ve come to love about him. The production is really phenomenal and it’s absolutely chock full of some of his best quotables to date. I’ve always felt like Bronson is at his best when his projects play fast and loose and on Blue Chips 7000 he’s absolutely razor sharp.
