You may have noticed over the last couple of days that we’ve been quietly updating our logos on here and our various social media pages (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram). It’s a change we’ve been contemplating for some time. Ever since we relaunched and updated this website really. We had been using a sort of college font for some time and we thought it worked really well for us, especially on our apparel. But we (me in particular) felt that with our sleeker, more modern design of the site that it felt slightly out of place, and honestly I got tired of telling everybody that the ‘X’ was just a separator lol.
It’s something that’s always bugged me but it was always pushed to the back burner while we worked on other pressing issues and new content. But unaware to us, when advertising on various platforms they actually don’t allow full text or charge a much higher price to do so, so our ‘FEARLESS.’ wasn’t going to fly and we were ready to take that next step and start testing out advertisements for the site.
That forced us to finally look at updating our text logos; we wanted something more sleek and original and after pouring over thousands of various inspirations, a particular misaligned design really struck us. It took us about a day to get it looking just right but we think it’s a striking and original, and still gives off that separation between the words without the need for the ‘x’ or any other separator. We couldn’t do the exact same for the small lettering since there was so much empty space, so we threw in some slashes to bring it all together.
Next we started to think about a logo and I knew I didn’t want some generic design or font logo. I wanted something that would really stand out, that could stand on it’s own, and that fully evoked the feel and culture we’re trying to create here. When we first started really evolving into what we are today we originally used a gorilla logo and we wanted to do something in that spirit again. So we went through what had to have been about 100 iterations until we finally came up with our space monkey. It’s instantly eye catching and we felt it captures our spirit. And for those movie buffs out there, there was a heavy ‘space monkey’ influence from a particular movie that hints at where we plan on taking things and our general feelings towards how things are done now.
It’s taken years of experiences and trial and error to get to this point and to these designs for LIVING LIFE FEARLESS, but we feel now more than ever that these new designs perfectly represent our brand and our spirit. Let us know what you guys think about the new designs and what you think ‘space monkey’ hints at for our direction. I’m curious to see if anybody could guess the general idea.
