I just happened to stumble across the song “Generationwhy” while perusing the interwebs and I’m glad I did because it brought me to Stephen Zhu and his debut album Generationwhy. My head hasn’t stopped bopping yet.
Genertationwhy is pure dance music, the type of music that would be right at home in a European nightclub, and the type of music that grew on me more and more over the years while I’ve been plying my trade. Electronic music is all about the feeling for me and if a song can give me that feeling of just letting loose then it’s a winner in my book; and Generationwhy has a lot of winners.

“Electrify Me” might just be my favorite track from the whole album. There’s no way to explain it other than it just feels right. Sonically expansive and hard hitting at the same time. This is representative of most of the tracks on Generationwhy. “Palm of My Hand”, “Money”, “Reaching”, and “Good Life” are all good examples of this. Not all tracks connected with me though. I just didn’t like “One Minute to Midnight” and “Working For It”, and “Numb” felt a little generic to me.

Vocals aren’t that important to me when it comes to dance music but they did a competent job of assisting the production. Overall I’ve been digging Generationwhy and glad I found another artist I’ll be looking out for in the future.
