Video Roundup 10/30-11/5

We’re back with another roundup and November has started out strong with a large collection of videos to talk about. From artists like Tech N9ne, Future, KiD CuDi, Bring Me the Horizon, Alicia Keys, and more. Check em out below and let me know what you think about this weeks videos.

Tech N9ne – What If It Was Me

Tech N9ne is one of the most consistent and underrated rappers out there in my book. The amount of success he’s been able to gain as an independent act and without compromising his sound is something you gotta respect. Well he’s back and this time taking on the all the recent police shootings with “What If It Was Me.” The video and song is a nod to the Sterling Brown shooting, but he adds an extra layer to things as he attempts to tackle the issue from both sides. It’s a pretty compelling video and the song itself is really dope. Krizz Kaliko’s voice is criminally underrated.

2 Chainz – Countin

Chainz is back with another video for “Countin” off his latest mixtape Hibachi for Lunch. He’s putting out an onslaught of dope trap music, reminiscent of his early T.R.U days. He’s trying to get his wave back and just might do it. The video’s an epic take on the latest mannequin challenge craze and it’s pretty slick.

Mura Masa – Love$ick

London definitely has a soft spot in A$AP’s heart as Rocky teams up with another London artist; this time electronic producer Mura Masa. It’s a cool, feel good song that will get multiple plays from me for sure. The video follows a group of teenagers rampaging through London and it captures the feel of the song pretty well.

Anderson .Paak – Come Down

Anderson .Paak is that guy. He’s extremely extremely dope and I love that he’s bringing the funk back into hip-hop. He recently dropped his long anticipated joint album with Knxwledge, but he’s revisiting one of the best songs off his debut album with this video. It’s a high-energy night at an underground juke joint and makes you want to dance. Dope vid, dope vibes.

Future – Used to This

Future and Drake, about as hot as any artists in the world right now. “Used to This” is not their best collaboration but it’s still a cool song that’s gonna be played in the club all over and will having people spending their rent money to stunt. The video is typical rap video stuff, they would have been better off using the footage of their tour like they did at the beginning and end.

Desiigner – Zombie Walk

I told y’all Desiigner wasn’t going anywhere. One of the better songs from his early career gets a surprisingly dope video. Like the song implies, a zombie outbreak jumps off and Desiigner’s right in the middle of it all. That’s all cool, but the video really gets dope when it switches into animation. Very well done.

Sigma – Find Me

This is one of the best songs of the year. Her voice is exceptional and the feels when combined with the production are real. The video is dope too, just for the simple fact that Eleven (from Stranger Things) is in it.

KiD CuDi – Surfin’

KiD CuDi is not in the best of shape these days and it’s a shame because he’s one of my favorite artists out there (MOTM is in my top). He’s completely different from the rest of the industry and that’s highlighted in “Surfin'” where he’s talking about riding his own waves. The song sounds great and the video captures that joy from it perfectly. There’s also a plethora of celebrities and artists in there (see if you can spot them all).

Meek Mill – Shine

DC4 is one of the best tapes to come out this past month and “Shine” is one of the best songs off it. The video is basic but it’s real, just like the whole feel of the song. He’s spitting some real shit here.

Bring Me The Horizon – Oh No

I honestly don’t know this band or this song and sort of just stumbled upon them, but when I heard it, it immediately grabbed my attention. The song’s great and I’ll have to check their other stuff. I’m not really sure what’s going on in the video (there’s a fetus playing a trumpet!? TF lol), but at least it’s not generic.

Alicia Keys – The Gospel

The Gospel is a short film by Alicia Keys that features a lot of music from her latest album Here. That alone is reason to watch it because her new music (all her music really) is exceptional. But besides the music, the video is just very well shot. It explores the various themes of her album; womanhood, love, growing up in NY, and black America to name a few.
