Trailer Roundup 12/12-12/25

This is our last trailer roundup of the year and they followed up our last roundup with even more big name trailers to talk about. I’m talking trailers for Alien: Covenant, Blade Runner 2049, Despicable Me 3, Dunkirk, and more. Check them all out below along with my reactions.

Alien: Covenant

Right off the back I have to start with one my all-time favorite franchises, Alien. The first two are absolute sci-fi masterpieces and have influenced nearly every sci-fi movie to follow in one way or another. While this was originally set to be the sequel to Prometheus, they opted to cut the bullshit and just call it what it is. Now, Prometheus is a divisive film amongst fans, but I’m personally not so critical about it, because I love the visuals and the world building. This looks like it might remedy a lot of that films missteps and be the Alien prequel/sequel we deserve. Please, please, please don’t fuck this up.

Dunkirk

Now I know nothing about the true life events of Dunkirk, but I do like these type of films (Saving Private Ryan being my favorite). Combine that with the fact that Christopher Nolan is at the helm, along with some of his usual go to actors, and I’m sold. It looks completely nerve wracking and the cinematography looks absolutely gorgeous. No doubt, he’ll do right by this one.

Despicable Me 3

I have no shame to admit that I’m a sucker for a good animated film, and Despicable Me was easily one of my favorites in recent memory, they just nail the balance between kid and mature humor. So I’ll be right there to see this one, no kid and all.

Wheeler

Now I’m not much of a fan of country music at all, but I love those films about musicians making it and this actually looks like a pretty good film. Not to mention I didn’t even recognize Stephen Dorff, albeit that could be because I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a Dorff sighting.

Blade Runner 2049

Oh shit! My second favorite sci-fi film behind Alien. Which also so happens to be directed by the genius Ridley Scott. They don’t show much in this teaser but it looks to have the same vibe and visuals as the original, and the original was a masterpiece. This sequel has been a long time coming, so I’m cautiously optimistic they won’t fuck this one up too.

The Fate of the Furious

Ugh, and I thought The Transformers were milking the shit out of their franchise. I’ll give credit where credit’s due, and acknowledge they really turned things around after the horrendous Tokyo Drift. But long gone are the days where it was about street racing, this is straight up action porn at this point. It was cool for a little, but they should have ended things with Walker’s passing. I’m officially checking out.
