San Diego Comic-Con 2016 Trailer Reactions

San Diego Comic-Con and the culture it represents continues to get bigger each and every year. Being a self-proclaimed comic book nerd, I can’t wait to see what gets shown and announced at the convention every year. These are some of the biggest trailers to come out of this year’s Comic-Con:

Justice League

DC Comic’s response to the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to be put on the fast track, for better or worse (worse in my opinion), as they’re gearing up for the first ever live-action Justice League movie. Dropping in November of next year it will feature a lot of the big hitters from the DC Universe: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, and others. Now I’ve always been more of a Marvel fanboy myself but it’s undeniably cool to get all of these guys (and gals) on the screen together. Let’s just hope they do a better job than they did with Batman vs. Superman. One thing they definitely try to show in the trailer is a lighter tone which their last two films lacked. I still think they’re rushing the universe and I have a lot of reservations about the film, but even bad pizza is still pizza, so I’ll be right in line regardless.

Doctor Strange

Marvel’s most ambitious movie since Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange looks to have the same impact that movie had. Just as Guardians opened up the galaxies, Doctor Strange could open a whole new world of possibilities by introducing magic for the first time. This is the first real good look at what to expect. It looks trippy as hell and seems to take some cues from Inception, which I loved. Marvel can’t seem to do any wrong so I’ll be front and center for this one as well.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I’m not the biggest Harry Potter fan, outside of the books, the movies never did that much for me. But I respect the world building they were able to accomplish and it’s one of the biggest franchises out there, so I’m sure they’ll do just fine. From the trailer this one at least looks like something I’d enjoy more than the actual Potter films.

Kong: Skull Island

Haven’t you heard, everything needs to be a part of shared universe now (thanks Marvel). Apparently this reboot is set in the same cinematic universe as the last Godzilla. This is the first real trailer and from first impressions, I’m freaking excited! They got an amazing cast (Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, to name a few), an amazing setting and time (70’s), and the biggest Kong to ever show up on film. Not to mention the very Apocalypse Now vibe I’m getting from the trailer. This movie has FUCK YEAH written all over it for me. I just pray Mr. Jackson yells about how tired he is of that m’f****n’ monkey on that m’f****n’ island.

Luke Cage

Call me biased but I’m fucking pumped to see a Marvel black superhero get his shine. Even if he’s a little stereotypical; he’s from Harlem and fights drug kingpins, really? But nonetheless Luke Cage is still dope and from what we saw of him in Jessica Jones, I’m ready for more. The director said they approached this series like a 90’s hip-hop album. Like I have no idea what that even means, but it sounds fucking amazing. Watching Luke Cage wreck shit to ODB playing in the background cemented that feeling for me. I have 10000% faith that this will be every bit as good as Marvel’s other Netflix shows.

Suicide Squad

The DC movie that I’ve been most interested in actually seeing is finally dropping this weekend. A movie about a group of villains having to team up and save the day, under the threat of having their heads blown up of course, and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto as Joker, along with Batman!? The movie definitely has a lot going on for it, and out of all of DC’s movies it actually looks like the most fun.

Wonder Woman

I’ve had my doubts about this movie, but from what the trailer has shown I’m cautiously optimistic. The first female superhero to get her own movie, and rightfully so, as Wonder Woman is probably the biggest of them all. The action looks intense and the story seems interesting. The trailer left more of an impression than Justice League at least.

American Gods

Now I’ve never read the novel but I’ve heard good things. The trailer really doesn’t tell you shit, but the visuals and castings have me intrigued. After quick research, apparently it’s about a war in America between the old gods that immigrants have brought with them through their beliefs and the new gods of media, technology, celebrity, etc. Interesting, definitely interesting. I may have to check a few episodes out.

Blair Witch

Huh!? What year is this? Pokemon is a thing again and now the Blair Witch is back? Who asked for this and why?
