Niiiiiiice. Mixtape Fab is back. And mixtape Fab is when Fabolous is at his best. Not saying that his albums are terrible, he just always seems to enter a different mode on his mixtapes that doesnโt always translate to his albums (with a few exceptions of course).ย Summertime Shootout 2ย is a follow up to last yearโs mixtape, and continues his streak of dropping music in 2016.
Since Summertime Shootout 2ย is a true mixtape, itโs a mix ofย production from other popular songs that he flips, along with some original production. The production is very similar to his previous mixtapes likeย The S.O.U.L Tape series. Familiar East coast sounds that have been updated to keep up with the times. โGoyard Bagโ may be my favorite track off the whole album. Itโs simple with a running piano loop, some kicks and hi-hats, and knocking bass. Simple, but very effective, laying the perfect backdrop for Fabolous to skate all over. โ4am Flexโ has surprisingly laid back production from araabMUZIK, and even though โSex With Meโ is a flip of the Rihanna single, it sounds perfectly at home with Fab. โFor the Familyโ is refreshingly throwback New York production. It sounds like something youโd hear from Dipset or Fab back in the early 2000โs. Not overly complex, but hard hitting, allowing plenty of room for Fab, Dave East, and Don Q to get bars off.

Iโll argue with anyone that Fabolous is one of the greatest punch line rappers to ever do it. His lyrics have always been full of wit, wordplay, and punchlines; and his subject matter has always been current and with the times. Thatโs the Fabolous formula, and itโs been working for this long, so thereโs no reason to change it now, and he doesnโt.ย Summertime Shootout 2ย is full of too many clever punchlines and references to list here, just trust me that Fab hasnโt lost a step.
