Itโs hard to find any rapper in the past few years whoโs had more of an impact on the current sound of music than Travi$ Scott. He took what artists like Kanye West and KiD CuDi were starting to do sonically and completely turned it up. His music is the personification of vibes and I fuck with those vibes heavily. So I couldnโt wait until he finally droppedย Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
The way heโs been able to utilize distortion, auto-tune, beat changes, synths, and his own voice as an instrument has defined not only his sound, but the sound of a lot music coming out today. These cornerstones of his sound allย remain strongly in tact onย Birds in the Trap. โWay Backโ is full of big bass riffs and 808โs, โThrough the Late Nightโ uses vocals as a backing instrumental that could easily have a place on a CuDi album, โCoordinateโ is a straight up banger with hard hitting kicks, and if you ever wondered what a Travi$ Scott dance-hall record would sound like, thereโs โGuidanceโ. My two favorite tracks offย Birds in the Trap have to be โSweet Sweetโ and โGoosebumpsโ though. The sheer diversity in production is astonishing, and none of them seem out of place. With the exception of โWonderfulโ, which sounds like a weak attempt at a pop hit for the radio. Minus that one ill formed track, Travi$ manages to style all overย Birds in the Trap.

Style. Thatโs the word I would use to describe Scottโs lyricism. Heโs not the worst rapper Iโve ever heard, or even hear today, but he is definitely a producer who raps and not the other way around. This is a fact that he seems to know himself, because most of the time youโll find him singing with the help of auto-tune as opposed to actually rapping. Lyricist he is not, but the way he manages to utilize auto-tune, ad libs, and his flow make for a great sounding song regardless. It has to be pointed out that he did manage to get a verse from hip-hopโs most reclusive MC , Andre 3000, and thatโs always cause for celebration.
