Itโs been a minute since weโve heard from the Mob. Weโve gotten projects from both Rocky and Ferg, the latter being underwhelming, but we havenโt heard them all together in some time. After building up some hype with their dope short film, they finally hit us with the fullย Cozy Tapes, Vol. 1, which was originally the brain child of the late A$AP Yams.
Iโve always really liked A$AP, especially for their production. Itโs always moody, melodic, and has this lo-fi type of quality to it that really makes it stand out. Itโs a sound theyโve practically perfected and it shows onย Cozy Tapes. As a whole this is some of the best production theyโve had to date. โYoung N***a Livingโ has a crazy hypnotic synth playing through the background, โTelephone Callsโ is gritty, hype music, and โPut That On My Setโ (my favorite track) has a crazy flip of the same sample used on Dr. Dreโsย The Chronic. Not quite southern, not quite East coast, itโs the Harlem equivalent of trill music; with clear influences from groups like UGK, Three 6 Mafia, and Bone Thugs.

Now itโs an A$AP Mob album, but really only in name; outside of a few tracks itโs A$AP Rocky and friends. He carries the majority of the album, with the other members only showing up in a few spots for support. This is a good thing. Outside of maybe Ferg, Iโve neverย liked Ant or Nast. Their lyrical ability is average at best and they donโt have the personality like Ferg.ย โLondon Townโ is pretty much unlistenable for me because of how horrible Ant is. The friends in the title is appropriate, because thereโs a plethora of guest features, from Wiz Khalifa to Lil Uzi Vert. Itโs a whoโs who of their industry friends and Iโd have to say Tyler, The Creator has probably the best verse off the whole album.
