One more piece to the puzzle

A little while back I posted about some obstacles we were facing due to a move to a new work environment and updates to some of our core. Well now I am happy to announce that those obstacles have officially been cleared and we have been able to implement many of those changes and updates that we’ve been working so hard to implement.

All those marathon coding sessions have officially moved the BETA up to version 2.3, and we really think that you’re really going to like the new changes we’ve made. Some of the changes you’ll readily notice, some you may not, but we think they will greatly improve the overall usability of the site.

Visually we’ve either added or adjusted a lot of icons around the site, many pages (like events & media) have new banners, and event/project videos are more attention grabbing.

The biggest change visually has to do with how everything gets laid out. If you know anything about web design you’ll know that designing a website, especially a dynamic one, for the infinite amount of devices and screen sizes out there is absolutely futile. For a while there we were definitely stuck in media query hell so we’ve moved away from that and rewrote a lot of core styling to make everything naturally more responsive. Now the layout should look good on any device or screen size.

Functionally we’ve now enabled editing of your media and statuses, added call to create buttons everywhere, making it much easier to start creating your own content, and added separate searching for ‘popular’ listings, media, events, and projects.

Besides all of the behind the scenes improvements, the biggest change we’ve made has been with our media. Firstly, we’ve stripped out status attachments making media the only place you can add your photos, audio, and video. Yes, we’ve added support for videos now. You cannot directly upload a video, but you can easily embed a video hosted from somewhere else (i.e. Youtube and Vimeo) by simply inputting the url of said video. You will still be able to tag and caption the video like you can with photos and audio uploads. There’s also a new media button on your profile header allowing you to add new media from any page on your profile.

These are just a few of the changes and improvements we’ve made to the site and we’re constantly working on more. If you had and suggestions or requests we’re always open to feedback, but other than that you can see where we’ve come from and where we plan to go by following our Roadmap. Let us know what you think about the recent changes. As always, keep living life fearless.
