Alejandra O’Leary and her single “Wires” masterfully taps into the very core of one of the richest nostalgia goldmines – ’90s shoegaze rock.
“Wires” just oozes that distinctive, charming mix of innocence and rebellious frivolity from every line, guitar riff, sound effect, and most of all, O’Leary’s beautiful vocals that soar gently and effortlessly above the powerful and melodic instrumentals. Her singing sounds extremely natural and authentic, like it’s coming straight from the source, without any buffers, rehearsals, or goals to impress. Basically, it sounds the way only pure talent can sound like.
And when you consider that half Columbian and half Irish songstress O’Leary follows an unconventional, rockstar-like creative process, having her band improvise each song’s final arrangement on the spot, this palpable spontaneity starts to seem more and more like the unmistakable mark of a future star.
